A Parking Story

Happy Volcano's Origins

and the birth of You Suck at Parking

Happy Volcano, the studio behind You Suck at Parking has been around maybe longer than you think. Find out about our history and how your next favorite parking game was born.

The three founders met in their previous job in an advertising company. They discovered their mutual interest in games and game development and decided to start their own company. In the beginning, they worked after hours on a little mobile game “Lava Fever” to see if they were able to make a game from scratch. After some interesting client contracts, they could afford to start working full-time at Happy Volcano. From that day on the studio kept on growing, reaching fifteen people now.

They worked on an ambitious passion project called “The Almost Gone” which was released in June 2020. It carries a dark story and a deep plot, that you discover by entangling riddles and puzzles in a pastel-colored house. The Almost Gone received numerous awards but the development took a serious toll on the studio members at that time: the game has been emotionally draining, and it was time to create something new.

Something new yes, something FUN: hell yes!

We never wanted to make a racing game in the true sense of the word. At Happy Volcano, we always try to work towards something that has a unique angle. We were inspired by games like What the golf, Micro Machines, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater,… By taking specific aspects of each of these games and combining those, we came up with You Suck at Parking.

The game is fun for beginners as well as experienced parkers because there’s that unpredictability. You might crash into a wall, but accidentally still park your car wreck. You never know what will happen next, keeping things fresh. It also makes the game fun for backseat gaming!

Early 2021, the game went through an art overhaul, that's maybe why you stumble on assets that look like You Suck at Parking but at the same time, not really!

We have big ambitions for the game, to make it a live title you can come back to indefinitely and experience always more fun and challenge into the worlds, levels, and new features we will create in the future! In the meantime, the best way to support us in the development process is to wishlist You Suck at Parking, and join our community on social media and Discord. See you there!
